Shooting with Soul | 52 Project | week 3 | eat

This week’s Project 52 shot may look quite obvious- a picture of a cute toddler eating watermelon- but it comes with a back story that holds such a special place is my heart.

This is Lily, the daughter of dear friends of mine. The significance of this shot comes from the fact that Lily was born at 29 weeks after an especially complicated pregnancy, and was a very unwell little girl. She spent the first 7 months of her life in hospital, where the most basic yet fundamental functions of life were her biggest mountains to climb- breathing, and eating. There were times when those mountains seemed insurmountable.

Today was the first time i have seen Lily since the day she left hospital (which by stoke of magic i was there to photograph- you can see that story here and to watch her today, a cheeky, determined little girl, running around, gleefully enjoying a juicy slice of watermelon, just blew my heart open with happiness.
